what is cognitive behavioural therapy? (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is psychotherapy (including but not limited to: Mindfulness, DBT, and other evidence-based treatments) in combination with self care.
It is only "short term" in the sense that you work to criteria (until you are functioning at a healthy level) or until your therapist refers you to a more specialized therapist.
It is your choice whether or not to go to therapy.
You can choose your own therapist, or get a referral.
If you don't like your therapist, you can seek out a new one. Please keep in mind: the function of therapy is not to receive affirmation; therapy is only therapeutic when we are challenged, open, and ready for change.
You may choose not to attend therapy, and become cognizant by educating yourself with studies, books and/or lectures written by mental health professionals.
You can choose one or numerous support groups and attend as often as you need.
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about CBT, and please see below for more BC resources regarding MH and chronic pain needs.
